ORVIETO ANALYTIQUE

The studio course began with a focus on understanding the history and context of Orvieto. Later in the semester, our attention shifted to developing design proposals for improving the arrival and departure experience in the northeast district of Corsica. In the first assignment, students researched many dimensions of Orvieto’s past and current conditions to better understand the qualities of the city. Analysis themes included Orvieto’s outer ring trail, Orvieto’s archeological sites and the underground city, views and landmarks, sense of enclosure and openness, civic spaces of Orvieto, church façades, sounds and audio qualities, movement corridors, and emotional responses to the city.
